Heroes and Icons

If you've rescanned your available channels recently you may have seen a new channel pop up as a subchannel of WJZY, specifically 46-3. As of October 1st WJYZ, Charlotte's Fox affiliate, began broadcasting a new digital network called Heroes and Icons. And while this broadcast is in SD, 480i to be exact, it is just another source of programming coming through the airwaves for free.

Heroes and Icons, operated nationally by Weigel Broadcasting might draw some comparisons to Grit! networks which the Charlotte market has had access to for a while now.  This is due to the fact that much of the programming is centered around the action, crime, and western genres. Among the current offerings are:
  • Kung Fu
  • The Rat Patrol
  • Renegade
  • The White Shadow
  • 21 Jump Street
  • Hill Street Blues
  • Hunter
  • NYPD Blue
  • Real Stories of the Highway Patrol
  • Branded
  • Broken Arrow
  • Cheyenne
  • Cimarron Strip
  • Have Gun - Will Travel
  • The Rebel
  • Stagecoach West
  • Wagon Train
  • The Wild Wild West
Furthermore H&I has obtained the rights to air all 5 Star Trek series which they plan to begin airing in 2016.   We here at CCC are pumped to have another channel in the mix.  To learn more about Heroes and Icons and for the programming schedule you can visit their site here.  For more information on how to tune H&I in the Charlotte area please see part 1 of our antenna series here.
